The export situation in Tonga for FY 2021-22. So, there's been a 29% decrease in total export compared to the previous year, but don't worry, there's still some good news! Commodities like Squash, Kava, Coconut, Handicraft and Nonu Juice have shown growth in total export.

Squash, in particular, had a tough year in 2020/21 due to the pandemic, but it’s made a comeback this year! Unfortunately, watermelon export was affected by the volcanic eruption and drought, but we’ll bounce back! Root crops are still a mainstay in Tonga’s exports, but the recent disaster has caused a 28% decline in total export. Let’s keep our heads up and work together to rebuild.

Given The Current Drought Situation And Its Effect On Some Of The Most Susceptible Crops Such As Talo Tonga (Swamp Taro), It Is Expected That Root Crop Export Might Continue To Decline Until Favorable Weather Condition Returns.
Increased Export Of Kava To Australia Was Attributed To The Opening Up Of The Australian Market On Commercial Export Of Kava To Australia. The Market To Australia Was Opened In December 2021 But Tonga Only Started Exporting In January 2022.
