Businesses operating in Tonga must register with the Business Registries Intellectual Property Office (BRIPO), which is mandated by the Ministry of Trade and Economic Development. The BRIPO oversees 10 business registries for businesses, including foreign investment, and 6 intellectual property registries. For foreign investors, engage in any trade, business, or industry activity with the intent of making a profit, including any trade vocation or calling. Section 6 of the Foreign Investment Act mandates registration for foreign investments.
